Cosmetic tattooing, also known as micropigmentation, is a semi-permanent procedure where pigment is implanted into the dermal layer of the skin, using a machine or hand tool.
-
Traditional tattooing uses ink whereas cosmetic tattooing uses pigments that are designed to fade over time. In permanent makeup you are also not tattooing as deep into the skin, so the colour looks much softer than a regular tattoo.
Fading and softness may sound unappealing especially since we’re always looking for longevity with treatments, but this allows room for improvements over time as your face and trends change.
-
• Women and men 18 years of age and older
• This procedure is great if you are wanting to save time and money on products
• If you have skin sensitivities to cosmetics
• If you have hair loss due to alopecia, cancer, stress, or over tweezing
• New mothers dealing with hair loss
• People with shaky hands that have trouble filling in their brows
-
• If you are pregnant or nursing
• If you have severe iron deficiency or anemia (the pigment may fade quicker and you may experience bleeding/bruising during and after the procedure)
• If you are currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation (you may be more susceptible to infection)
• If you are a smoker, the pigment may fade quicker
• If you have extremely sensitive, oily, and overall problematic skin that takes a long time to heal, your results may be affected (diabetics, severe cases of acne, dermatitis, etc.)
• If you have had previous tattooing and it’s still quite visible and dark you may not be eligible for a coverup/correction
While the above is not ideal, if you are extremely set on getting the procedure done, I will consider certain cases, but you must fill out the complete client disclosure package and have written consent from your doctor in order to move forward
-
It’s hard to say as everyone’s pain threshold is different. I use topical anaesthetic cream, gel, and ointment to numb the area before and throughout the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. If you are sensitive to pain, you may take 1-2 extra strength Tylenol (must be ok'd by your doctor) after we’ve decided on a brow design.
-
Depending how you heal and your lifestyle, cosmetic tattooing can last anywhere from 1-3 years, ideally needing additional refresh appointments every 1-2 years. Again, every case is different. One free touch up is included 6-8 weeks after initial treatment.
Results are not guaranteed.
-
• Be off of Accutane for at least a month or two prior to treatment
• If using Retin A or any sort of acne medication that thins out the skin, discontinue use until after the procedure
• If you get Botox or cosmetic procedures, also refrain until after the procedure as it will affect the muscles in your face and the end result will be dependent on always having that cosmetic procedure
• If you already have a cosmetic tattoo, wait until it has faded enough to allow for another tattoo to be designed in its place. If you are wanting a cover up/correction you must first email photos of your eyebrows and have approval before moving forward with an appointment
• Results are not guaranteed. If you have excessively oily or thick skin, the strokes may not be as visible and will appear a bit blurred. If your skin is extremely thin, your strokes may not take or may look blotchy
-
• Do not drink alcohol for at least 8 - 10 hours before the procedure
• Avoid medications that will thin out the blood (Vitamin E, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, etc.) for at least 2-3 days prior
• Do not get botox until after your session or 2-3 weeks before
• Do not get any skin procedures such as microdermabrasion, laser, chemical peels of any kind for at least a week or two prior as it will thin out the skin around your eyes
• Avoid waxing, tweezing, electrolysis etc., for 4-7 days prior to procedure
• Try not to plan your appointment around any special events as your eyebrows will be quite dark
• Avoid sun and tanning beds for at least 2-4 weeks as the skin exfoliation process will remove pigment and will end up affecting the tattoo results
-
• Do not have caffeine or stimulants
• Do not wear any makeup when you come in except for your eyebrows if you wish to show how you fill them in
• Make sure you eat and are hydrated so you’re comfortable during the treatment
• If you have bangs, bring a hair clip to keep your hair off of your face
• Dress comfortably and be prepared to stay and be laying down for 2-3 hours at minimum
• Have your client documents filled out and brought in with you if not filled out and emailed back ahead of your appointment
• Allow yourself time to get to your appointment and find parking as there is a strict 15 min late policy
-
• When you come in for your appointment I ask that you come with your eyebrows filled in the way you usually wear them. If you don’t like how you fill them in, clean brows are perfectly fine
• Your eyebrows and surrounding skin are cleansed and photos are taken
• From there I measure to make sure the head (inner corner), arch, and tail (end point) are in line with your eyes, and work with your bone structure. Certain areas of the brow may need to be trimmed/ shaved/tweezed to allow the shape to take form. The process of designing the eyebrows takes the most time out of the procedure (1-2 hours) because we need to pick a shape and thickness that will suit your face, while also ensuring symmetry and overall aesthetic satisfaction
• Once we have decided on a shape, I apply numbing cream to your brows, and the skin around it, and let sit for about 12 minutes
• I then remove the numbing cream on one brow first and begin working to get the outline tattooed so there is a guide
• From there I keep switching sides, adding numbing cream as we go to help with any discomfort
• The entire procedure can take anywhere from 2.5-3 hours at minimum, but always prepare for longer so we’re not rushed. Remember, time is spent answering questions and going over everything in full so you leave your session feeling confident and prepared
